cape gooseberries

if you can remember when cape gooseberries were  grown in many back gardens, or if you’d like to try a delicious fruit you haven’t tasted before, wandin yallock farms have the perfect produce for you!

Cape Gooseberries are known by several names including Golden Berries, Inca Berries, Peruvian Ground Cherries, or by their botanical name Physalis. Related to the tomatillo and tomato, Cape Gooseberries are small, golden berries encased in a pretty papery husk that looks like a Chinese lantern. They have a unique flavour that is both sweet and a little tart at the same time. Cape Gooseberries contain many positive health qualities. They are rich in Vitamins A, B-complex and C, and are high in fibre, antioxidants, iron and protein.

for you to enjoy

Cape Gooseberries are delicious to pop straight out of their husks and into your mouth.  They are terrific in either savoury or sweet dishes. Try them in a green salad, with chicken, in cakes, or in desserts. They are often used as edible garnishes with their husks rolled back for decoration. The papery husks are not eaten.
